Overthinking

Leave one question unanswered tonight

Not every uncertainty can be resolved by giving it the rest of your evening.

LushClover · 02

You have reached the same answer again

You have considered the options, sent the question, and checked the details available to you. What remains depends on someone else’s response. Still, you keep reopening the problem.

LushClover · 03

Mark what is known

Write three brief lines: what you know, what you are waiting for, and what you will do when it arrives. If there is a genuine action left, include it rather than pretending it can wait.

LushClover · 04

Notice the limit of tonight’s information

No amount of rearranging the existing facts can produce tomorrow’s reply. You can dislike that limit without needing to argue with it until bedtime.

LushClover · 05

Give your attention somewhere concrete

Choose something with a clear beginning: wash the dishes, read a few pages, or talk about another subject. It does not have to remove the uncertainty to deserve your attention.

LushClover · 06

Resume when there is something new

Keep the note where you can find it. Tomorrow you can continue from the actual situation, rather than from the fear that pausing meant you had stopped caring about the outcome.

Stay a little longer
