Relationships

Notice the ordinary effort

Some of the things people do for us become almost invisible because they happen so often.

LushClover · 02

The coat is already by the door

Someone checked the weather before you left. Yesterday they charged the shared headphones. Neither moment looked like a grand gesture, and both disappeared into the smoothness of the day.

LushClover · 03

Look at what became easier

Choose one specific thing another person did. What did it spare you, make possible, or help you enjoy? That detail gives you something real to acknowledge.

LushClover · 04

Say what you noticed

“You remembered I needed the car early. That made this morning much simpler.” There is no need to turn it into a speech about everything they mean to you.

LushClover · 05

Keep gratitude separate from obligation

Thanking someone does not make an unfair workload fair. You can appreciate an effort and still discuss how responsibilities are shared. Those conversations can both belong in the same relationship.

LushClover · 06

Let the moment stand

You do not need thanks for your thanks. Offer the observation and continue with the day. Something that used to pass unnoticed has now been seen by the person it helped.
