Stress

Help that does not become another job

When someone is overwhelmed, the shape of your offer matters.

LushClover · 02

You want to be useful

A friend is caring for a relative. You say “Let me know if you need anything,” and hear nothing. They may have no spare energy to organize an answer.

LushClover · 03

Offer a concrete possibility

“I could bring dinner Wednesday or collect groceries Friday. Would either help?” gives them something specific to consider. Keep the offer within what you can actually do.

LushClover · 04

Check preferences before acting

Food needs, privacy, timing and household routines matter. An unexpected delivery or visit may create work. Ask the necessary questions without requiring them to manage an elaborate project.

LushClover · 05

Complete the agreed task

If you offer groceries, bring the groceries and handle the details you agreed to handle. Do not add a social visit unless it is welcome. Practical help can remain practical.

LushClover · 06

Allow a different answer

They may need something else or decline. Respect that without taking it as a judgment on your kindness. You can leave a clear opening for another time while keeping their choice intact.

Stay a little longer
