Connection

You can have plans all weekend and still feel lonely.

A full calendar does not tell the whole story of connection.

LushClover · 02

You were there. You laughed.

You answered the questions. You helped clear the plates.

Then you got home and felt a little more alone than you expected.

LushClover · 03

Try naming what was missing.

Was it someone asking a second question? A chance to speak honestly? The feeling that you could stop being entertaining?

“More plans” might not describe what you wanted.

LushClover · 04

Company and connection can feel different.

The NHS describes loneliness as a personal experience that can happen even in a room of people you know.

Having company does not make your feeling invalid.

LushClover · 05

Choose a smaller conversation.

Think of one person with whom you feel reasonably safe.

You might say: “I’ve been around people a lot, but I haven’t really talked about how I’m doing.”

LushClover · 06

You can open the door a little.

You don’t have to share everything. You might start with one difficult day or one thing you’re looking forward to.

Notice whether there is room for you in the response.

LushClover · 07

Ask for the kind of company you miss.

A quiet walk may fit better than another crowded evening.

Your next plan can make room for a little more of you.

Stay a little longer

Another thought to take with you.

You don’t need a crisis to ask someone to stay a little longer. ↗You’ve waved at them for a year. You still don’t know their name. ↗You can pause an argument without disappearing. ↗
