Connection

You’ve waved at them for a year. You still don’t know their name.

An ordinary hello is a place to start.

LushClover · 02

Same doorway. Same familiar nod.

You recognize their coat before their face. You know which dog is theirs.

Somehow, introducing yourself now feels stranger than it would have on day one.

LushClover · 03

You don’t need a clever opening.

“We keep seeing each other, and I realized I never introduced myself.”

It can be that simple. Let the other person decide how much conversation they have time for.

LushClover · 04

Nearby connections count, too.

The CDC includes getting to know neighbors among its ideas for building social connection.

Not every relationship has to begin with a major common interest.

LushClover · 05

Follow the conversation you actually have.

If they mention a plant, a local shop, or tomorrow’s weather, you can start there.

There is no requirement to turn a first hello into a lasting friendship.

LushClover · 06

Remember one thing for next time.

Their name. The dog’s name. That they’re moving in this week.

If you forget, you can ask again instead of avoiding them.

LushClover · 07

Make one familiar face a little less anonymous.

When the moment feels welcome, say hello with your name attached.

A small connection is still a connection.

Stay a little longer

Another thought to take with you.

You keep meaning to call. They may be doing the same thing. ↗Maybe you don’t need to be more interesting. Maybe you need to show up again. ↗They do it so often, you almost stopped noticing. ↗
