Connection

You keep meaning to call. They may be doing the same thing.

A friendship doesn’t need a perfect comeback speech. It needs an opening.

LushClover · 02

At first, it was a busy week.

Then a month. Then their name became one of those names you think of with a small sting.

You still care. Now you also feel awkward.

LushClover · 03

The message keeps getting longer.

In your head, you explain where you’ve been, apologize properly, ask the right questions.

It becomes a message you need an uninterrupted afternoon to write. So you send nothing.

LushClover · 04

Connection can begin with less.

NHS guidance on loneliness includes reaching out to people you know and making opportunities for contact.

You don’t need to solve the whole friendship before taking one small step toward it.

LushClover · 05

Start with something true.

“I saw something today that reminded me of you. I’d love to catch up. How have you been?”

Use your own words. If you owe a real apology, don’t hide it behind a casual hello.

LushClover · 06

Leave them room to answer honestly.

They may respond warmly. They may be busy. They may not want to reconnect.

An invitation offers a possibility; it doesn’t create an obligation for either person.

LushClover · 07

If the door opens, make it concrete.

Instead of “We must catch up sometime,” try a specific invitation: “Would a short call on Sunday work?”

Pick something you can follow through on, even if it’s small.

LushClover · 08

Someone can matter before you have time.

Think of one person you miss.

If contacting them feels safe and welcome, send the opening—not the perfect speech. Let the next conversation be the next conversation.

Stay a little longer
