Connection

You don’t need a crisis to ask someone to stay a little longer.

Company can be a need before it becomes an emergency.

LushClover · 02

You almost said something.

They were putting on their coat. You wanted another cup of tea, another ten minutes, a little more noise in the house.

Instead, you said you were fine.

LushClover · 03

Make the request small and clear.

“Would you have time to sit with me for a bit?”

That lets them understand what you want without having to guess why you’ve gone quiet.

LushClover · 04

Support can be ordinary.

The CDC encourages reaching out for help, including when asking feels difficult.

In your life, that might mean requesting company rather than advice or a solution.

LushClover · 05

Let them have an honest answer.

They may need to leave. That doesn’t tell you everything about how much they care.

If today doesn’t work, you can ask whether another time would.

LushClover · 06

Name the version that would help.

A phone call while you cook. A walk around the block. Someone sitting nearby while you sort paperwork.

Think of a manageable invitation, not a test of the friendship.

LushClover · 07

You can ask before it gets unbearable.

The next time “stay a little longer” is what you mean, consider saying it.

You don’t have to make your need invisible to be considerate.

Stay a little longer

Another thought to take with you.

You’ve waved at them for a year. You still don’t know their name. ↗You keep meaning to call. They may be doing the same thing. ↗You said yes. Now you’re hoping they cancel. ↗
