Overthinking

The meeting you keep replaying

A stumble in one sentence can grow much larger in the version you replay afterward.

LushClover · 02

One moment takes over

You gave an update, lost your place, and corrected yourself. Hours later, that pause is the only part you can remember. The questions you answered and the work you explained have disappeared from the account.

LushClover · 03

Write the observable version

What would a transcript show? “I paused, checked my notes, and continued” is different from “Everyone realized I am incompetent.” Keep the event separate from the meaning you added to it.

LushClover · 04

Check for something useful

Is there a factual correction to send or a question to follow up on? If so, do that particular thing. An apology to the entire room may not be needed for an ordinary hesitation.

LushClover · 05

Make one note for next time

Perhaps larger notes or a shorter opening would help. Choose one adjustment, then put the document away. Repeating the whole meeting is not necessary to keep that lesson.

LushClover · 06

Return to the rest of your day

You may remember the pause again. You can notice the replay without starting another investigation. The meeting contained more than that moment, and so does the evening ahead.
